The Winnipeg Team Handball League is home to athletes of all ages and abilities. Whether you are a player returning from the European professional leagues (which we have a few of) or a weekend warrior who plays the game for fun and recreation (which we have a lot of!) the WTHL is the place for you.
Currently, there are 16 teams in the league, which is split into two divisions each for men and women. The Premiere, or “B” division is home to our athletes who play more for recreation. Don’t let that fool you though! There are many intense rivalries on both the women’s and men’s side of this division.
If you want to step up the intensity a notch, the Elite, or “A” division is where you want to be. We have players on both the men’s and women’s side who have represented Canada in international competition. The Elite division is also home to many of our Provincial team members.
Despite the fact that handball is not very well known in North America, it is one of the most popular sports in Europe and Asia. Handball is also an Olympic sport, and is so popular across the pond that are groups already generating excitement for the handball tournament in the 2012 London Olympics.
The Winnipeg Team Handball League is always looking for new players. If you are interested in playing handball in the WTHL, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at lcoston@mts.net.
See you on the court!
